Solo Travelers
Wonder what it’s like to be a solo traveler on a Brand g trip? Here’s everything you need to know!
Yes, we welcome them with open arms! We have a large cohort of solo travelers, and many of them have traveled with us 6, 8, 10, even 12 times. That should tell you something. Brand g trips are an extremely welcoming environment for EVERYONE.
While some cruises have a solo cabin or two, typically, you’ll be occupying a cruise cabin or hotel room for two, so single supplements do apply. The amount involved varies based on the trip, but Brand g has among the lowest single supplements of any LGBT+ tour operator.
It is, unfortunately, the economic model on which travel is based, where everything is priced for two, and it’s something we have no control over (no tour operator does). The cruise line we charter or the hotel we book is basing their costs on two guests per room. But obviously, you are only eating for one, taking one shore excursion, drinking for one, etc., so we are able to offer you some savings on those components of the vacation.
They tend to be mostly male, mostly in their 50’s and 60’s (and some 70’s), and they’re generally quite active and friendly people. Now, by friendly, we don’t mean that they’re big, suck-all-the-air-out-of-a-room personalities; they just tend to enjoy meeting others. Which is why they don’t mind traveling alone in the first place!
Of course, we don’t want to scare any shyer solo travelers. We’ve had extremely shy singles end up in group hugs at the end of a trip. You don’t necessarily have to be the one to initiate interactions. People will also just come up to you. One of the things we always say about our guests is that they’re exceptionally friendly. But if you ARE able to extend yourself just the slightest bit, you’ll find even more willing friends on a Brand g trip.
They typically make up about 5% of the guests on a trip, but we’ve had some trips where there were 10% or more. If it’s a 150-200 person river or ocean cruise, that means perhaps 8-10 solo travelers. On a small-group land tour, there may only be one or two. That said, our number of single travelers continues to grow.
Brand g does not treat its trips as some sort of “couples-only” environment. We want every guest to have the same experience of fun and acceptance. Brand g hosts always make extra efforts to introduce solo travelers to other guests. And Brand g guests are extremely welcoming, inviting solo travelers to join them for meals, etc. Many of our guests – single and couples – end up making lifelong friends and travel buddies from our trips.
Brand g does not offer a roommate matching service. But we do have a private Facebook group called CARE TO SHARE, where guests can post and chat about a trip they want to find a roommate for. If you’d like to join it, just click on this link, ask to join, and you’ll be vetted and admitted within 24 hours.
