We are proud to have partnered with ORAM – Organization for Refuge, Asylum and Migration over the last two years. As many of you already know, ORAM works to support and advocate for LGBTIQ asylum seekers and refugees. As a global organization, they work in Kenya, Greece and along the U.S-Mexico border. Due to the current political climate, the US-Mexico border is an epicenter for LGBTIQ asylum seekers seeking asylum.
LGBTQ Asylum Seekers Stranded along the US-Mexico Border
President Biden’s inauguration marked a promising transition towards advancing global LGBTIQ human rights and more just and humane immigration policies. The administration’s commitment to LGBTIQ refugees and asylum seekers is heartening but there is still a lot of work to do.
Hundreds of LGBTIQ asylum seekers continue to wait in Mexico for the chance to request asylum in the U.S., and they are facing violent crime, economic hardship and increased threat of COVID-19.
And yet, more LGBTIQ individuals are arriving at the southern U.S. border every day, propelled by expectations of a friendlier reception and by a change in the restrictive asylum policies of the previous administration.
LGBTIQ asylum seekers’ lives along the border are at stake right now, and urgent action is required.
We are asking for your help in supporting LGBTIQ asylum seekers during this time of need.

LGBTIQ Refugee Livelihood Projects in Kenya
Thank you to everyone who donated to ORAM’s #Giving Tuesday campaign in December. This was the second year in row that our amazing guests supported the critical work of our partner non-profit ORAM. Mo Bidair, one of our most frequent travelers, made a matching gift contribution of $1,000. In addition, one of Brand g’s original founders Charlie Rounds along with his husband Mark Hiemenz made their own matching gift contribution of $1,000.
The campaign was a great success and raised nearly $9,000 for ORAM’s work supporting LGBTIQ refugees in Kenya develop livelihood projects, including the first ever LGBTIQ refugee-led soap making business and a chicken farm.
Since the campaign, ORAM has provided a number of LGBTQ refugees with trainings and business support through their partner on the ground the Refugee Coalition of East Africa.
The livelihood projects have been effective in improving the lives of LGBTIQ refugees by providing sustainable tools and means of survival, especially during the pandemic.Â
