Who doesn’t want to ponder the pyramids? Stare at a sphinx? Caress a camel? (Not in a weird way.)
Egypt has been high on traveler’s lists for decades. But for the last few years, the government of Egypt was in some turmoil, and, for the safety of their guests, many cruise lines and tour companies pulled out (including Brand g).
But this incredible land of antiquities has gotten their act together, and it is once again open for business. Virtually all of the major cruise lines and tour companies – including Brand g – now feature Egypt vacations. The US State Department lists Egypt at Level 2, meaning “exercise increased caution” – the same level they give almost every country in Europe, like France, England, the Netherlands, etc.
And many of these trips – including Brand g’s 2021 Enchanting Egypt Nile cruise – include an extension to Jordan, a country you may have thought little about, but which is an absolutely stunning historical destination, equal to (and sometimes surpassing) Egypt. Read on below!
Just a few of the dozens of amazing sights to see in these two ancient countries include:
- The mammoth pyramids of Giza (one made from over two million blocks) and the Great Sphinx, believed to have been built in the 26th century B.C.
- The Nile River – a 5-star cruise from Luxor to Aswan will make you feel like you’re the new queen of the Nile. Move over, Cleo.
- The massive 12th century B.C. Temples of Ramses in Abu Simbel, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site known as the “Nubian Monuments”…
And then, there’s Jordan, with an abundance of spectacular sights, like:
- The Ruins of Jerash – nicknamed the Pompeii of the East, it is one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities.
- Wadi Rum – the largest desert valley in Jordan, where parts of Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. You can get sensational pictures while crossing this “Rum” in a 4×4.
- Petra – the can’t-miss UNESCO World Heritage city also called the “Rose City”, because of the color of the stone used in its incredible rock-cut architecture. It dates back to 7,000 B.C.
- And, of course, the Dead Sea – a body of water more than 1,400 feet below sea level (the lowest elevation on Earth), which is famous for its mineral-rich mud and waters, thought to have healing properties.
Got a bucket list? Egypt and Jordan should absolutely be on it. A trip to this pair of ancient countries is rich in both historical and religious significance (for those so inclined).
